We are pleased to present the first of the Masterclasses that MCSC has planned within the framework of the Hardship Fund for Lebanese Schools, a project supported by GEECT and embraced by our School to help the three Lebanese Schools and Universities of Cinema which are living difficult times: the Institut d’études scéniques, audiovisuelles et cinématographiques (IESAV) of the University of Beirut, the Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts (ALBA) of the University of Balamand and the Division of Audio Visual Arts – (DAVA) of Notre Dame University in Louaize.
The Masterclass on March 25th will feature Alaa Eddine Aljem, a young Moroccan director and screenwriter who, after training both at home and abroad (at INSAS in Brussels), directed several short films, including The Desert Fish (2015), which gained great acclaim on the film festival circuit. His first work, Le Miracle du saint inconnu, released in 2019, is a comedy with a burlesque tone that tells a contemporary Morocco, victim of superstitions and climate change. The film premiered at the 2019 Cannes Semaine de la critique and received several awards at international festivals (Locarno, Valladolid, Tangier).
During the meeting, conducted by Alessandra Speciale – co-artistic director of FESCAAL together with Annamaria Gallone – the director will have the opportunity to dialogue with the students about his artistic and professional experience, retracing the stages, from his first short films to the success of his debut work, up to the preparation of new projects, including his second feature film.
Prior to the Masterclass, MCSC and Lebanese students received exclusive special content made available by the director.
